How the CASTULIK DX160 shredder supports the recycling of cemetery candles.

Company REPARAF from Zohor (Slovakia) is one of the pioneers in collecting and processing waste cemetery candles. Using a mechanical‑thermal technology and the CASTULIK DX160 shredder, the company transforms hundreds of tonnes of waste into recycled paraffin and alternative fuel.

The company was founded in 2012 as an enthusiastic project by a young environmental activist. Through the collection and mechanical-thermal processing of waste cemetery candles, the company produces anti-frost orchard candles, recycled cemetery candles, and blocks of wax for other uses.

In 2024, the company purchased a twin-shaft shredder DX160/600_16.7kW, which is one of the two key components of their processing technology. The shredder is used for coarse shredding of plastic candle cups to open them. The fragmented cups are then heated in a specially modified furnace to a temperature at which the paraffin flows out.

Currently (2024), the company’s candle waste collection and recovery service covers a region with a population of 500,000. It collects between 100 and 200 tons of waste, from which it produces 50 to 100 tons of recycled paraffin products. Additionally, the plastic waste recovered through this process serves as a valuable fuel for cement kilns.
